As a youngster, Curt Flood starred on the baseball fields of Oakland, Alameda and San Francisco. He was originally signed by Cincinnati and traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1957. He earned seven Gold Glove Awards from 1963-1969 and batted .300 or better in six seasons with a high of .335 in 1967; .296 in 1962; and .285 in 1969. He held the Major League record in fielding percentage, at .1000 in 1966, as well as the Major League record for consecutive errorless games (226). Flood was instrumental in three Redbird National League pennants and two World Series triumphs. After 15 years, he retired in 1971, with a lifetime batting average of .293.

Inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
