Tom Flores is, along with Mike Ditka, one of only two people to win a Super Bowl as a player, an assistant coach and a head coach. Born in Sanger, California, Flores played quarterback for College of Pacific (now University of Pacific), which he attended on an academic scholarship. He joined the Oakland Raiders in 1960, the inaugural year of the AFL and became the first Hispanic starting quarterback in pro football history. He went to Buffalo and Kansas City, retiring after 1970 as one of 20 players with the AFL for its entire 10-year existence. He became an assistant on the Raiders and in 1972 was elevated to head coach, in the 1979 season becoming the first minority head coach to win a Super Bowl, XV, over Philadelphia. That victory was repeated in Super Bowl XVIII against Washington. Flores coached the Seattle Seahawks from 1992-95. His 83 wins with the Raiders are the second most in franchise history. The stadium at Sanger High is named in honor of Flores.

Inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
